I am so excited to finally review the Garmin Forerunner 610, which is one of the best GPS running watches out there! Garmin is known for their GPS know-how, and the Garmin Forerunner series is no exception. This watch hit the market only a few months ago and has won already tons of praises. The Garmin Forerunner 610 is top of the line for all GPS watches and only competes with another Garmin Forerunner model, the Garmin Forerunner 910XT. The Garmin Forerunner 910XT has slightly different features and has a bigger widescreen display. If you want to read about that watch, have a look here – and compare the two models. But I can promise you, if you get one of those two models from the Garmin Forerunner series, you will be floating in heaven. By the way, you might also be interested in the Garmin Forerunner 310XT, which is also a widescreen model.
What’s So Special About The Garmin Forerunner 610
First of all, the Garmin Forerunner 610 is the only touch-screen GPS running watch on the market. Garmin made it easy for runners to check their data during a workout, as you don’t have to fiddle around pressing any buttons – just swipe across your watch display. And if you want to see more training data, you just simply tap your screen – as easy as that! The screen has just the right sensitivity, as you can even operate it with running gloves on. (I think you can tell, that I am so excited writing this review…) Besides the touch screen the Garmin Forerunner 610 has many more interesting features. It is a super accurate GPS device that tracks your position, distance and pace in all conditions – even under thick tree coverage and next to tall city buildings. You will be surprised how so many advanced features can be packed in relatively small wrist watch. The Garmin Forerunner 610 has a few features that no other GPS running watch has. For example you will love the Garmin Training Effect feature that was designed by Garmin. It lets you train more wisely as it takes various calculations into account. For example it will use data from your heart rate, your user profile and how hard you push yourself during your workout. Another setting that is only available in this model is the Garmin Virtual Racer. With the Virtual Racer you can race against your previous best times in various conditions and different speeds. You also get to train against a Virtual Partner, another feature just designed by Garmin. This has the advantage, that you can push yourself and get motivated without the need of finding an actual training partner. As we all know, it’s not easy to always schedule a run with somebody else – which makes this feature very beneficial for your training. Besides these specifications your Garmin Forerunner 610 also tracks your heart rate, which is a must when you want to train efficiently. Like other heart rate monitors you will be able to train in various heart rate zones including alerts (audible and visually) and get an accurate calorie counter based on your heart rate.
Easy Uploading Of Your Workout Data With The Garmin Forerunner 610
The Garmin Forerunner 610 is not only one of the best GPS running watches, but also one of the most user friendly GPS heart rate watches as it wirelessly uploads all your data to the special Garmin training site – whenever you are close to your computer. This means that you never have to worry about the hassle of connecting your watch with a USB cable to the computer. And it is all done automatically whenever you are in reach of your computer.
What Else Does The Garmin Forerunner 610 Have To Offer
Besides being one of the best training watches, you will enjoy other features such as being able to store up to 1000 laps and 100 waypoints. While you are outdoors you won’t need to worry about any weather condition, as your Garmin Forerunner 610 has a waterproof standard of IPX7. This means that your watch is protected of splashes and can be immersed in water of up to 1 meter depth for up to 30 minutes. This is the higher and advanced standard, compared to IPX6. The batteries of your Garmin Forerunner 610 will last you about 8 hours during training and up to 4 weeks during normal use. The watch display measures 1″, which makes it a great watch to wear even during the day. And the wrist band is also super comfortable.
Two Versions Of The Garmin Forerunner 610
The Garmin Forerunner 610 is available with a heart rate monitor and without. We recommend that you get the model with the heart rate sensor, as it is very beneficial for your training and very useful for improving your performance. It would be a shame to invest in such a high-tech training device and save on the 50 dollars that the version with the heart rate monitor costs.
List price: $ 399.99 USD (model with heart rate monitor) and $ 349.99 USD (model without HR sensor)
