Introduction To The Polar RS300X Heart Rate Monitor
The Polar RS300X Heart Rate Monitor is an advanced heart rate monitor for recreational athletes. It is available in three different models. The regular Polar RS300X Heart Rate Monitor, the Polar RS300X SD with the included S1 foot pod and the Polar RS300X G1 with an included GPS sensor. All three models are available in black and in orange. This gives the athlete a little bit of individuality in their choice. I personally like the look of the black Polar RS300X Heart Rate Monitor better as it is easier to wear it as an every-day watch as well. Let’s say that you blend in easier with the black model.
What Is Special About The Polar RS300X Heart Rate Monitor
This is the right heart rate monitor watch for all intermediate runners and cross training athletes. It has more functions than the basic models like the Polar FT7, but is still not over complicated like the more professional models from Polar. This training computer concentrates obviously mostly at your heart rate. It displays your heart rate as beats per minute, as % of maximum heart rate and as the average or maximum heart rate of your complete workout session or the average/maximum HR of the lap. By the way, the Polar RS300X Heart Rate Monitor stores up to 16 past workouts. This is not as much as you might find in some other heart rate monitor models, but I guess it is enough for the intermediate athlete. If you keen on being able to have a heart rate watch with up to 99 workout summaries, then look at the Polar RS800CX model. The Polar RS300X Heart Rate Monitor lets you train in different heart rate training zones. You can either choose the automatic aged based heart rate training zone or use your own personal training zones. The audible and visual alarm will inform you if you get above or below your chosen HR training zone. This model helps you improve your performance with several of Polars own training functions such as Polar Fitness Test, which measures your overall fitness level in 5 minutes while you rest. Or you can take advantage of the Polar Sport Zones feature, which lets you follow your intensity of your workout. You have 5 different heart rate training zones available, which are calculated as the % of your maximum HR: maximum [ 90% to 100% of percentage max HR], hard [80% to 90% of % max HR], moderate [70 - 80%], light [60 - 70%] and very light [50 - 60% of %HRmax]. In my opinion, this is a very useful feature that motivates you to push harder in your workout. The Polar RS300X Heart Rate Monitor has also a very accurate calorie counter, which is another special Polar feature: Polar OwnCal. It displays your burned calories during your workout, but also keeps track of your past training workouts and sums up your cumulative burned calories. This heart rate monitor feature is very useful for your immediate motivation but also helps you keep track of your long term goals.
What About The Polar RS300X G1 With GPS
I can only recommend to you that if you buy the Polar RS300X Heart Rate Monitor to get the bundle with the G1 GPS sensor. The difference is probably another $40 or so, but you get a great deal of important features with it. The Polar RS300X G1 Heart Rate Monitor adds another three main features to your watch. The first part concentrates on distance and records accurately your distance of your training session or distance of your lap. The Polar RS300X G1 Heart Rate Monitor also records the distance overall since the last reset. It displays the data in either miles or kilometers. The second part are speed based target training zones, which let you define your own speed target zone and will inform you audibly or visually if you get out of your training zone. And the last part of the GPS watch is the speed and pace feature. The Polar RS300X G1 Heart Rate Monitor records your actual speed in miles or kilometers and displays your pace, which is the rate of speed. The speed/pace is displayed as average, current and maximum. The speed/pace feature is very useful as you can set your own target pace zone and improve your time to reach a certain distance.
What Else Does The Polar RS300X Heart Rate Monitor Have To Offer
Besides being an excellent training computer, the Polar RS300X Heart Rate Monitor is also a great every day watch. It displays the time of the day in 12h or 24h mode, has an alarm with snooze function, a calendar that displays the date and weekday, a backlight that helps you get accurate readings in the dark and a keylock. The Polar RS300X Heart Rate Monitor is water-resistant up to 164 feet (50 meters).
Final Thoughts About The Polar RS300X Heart Rate Monitor
The Polar RS300X Heart Rate Monitor is a great training watch for the intermediate athlete that wants to know more data of their workout to improve their fitness level. It has many useful features like Polar Sport Zones and lap recording features. If you get the Polar RS300X G1 bundle with the GPS sensor, you can take advantage of more important training features like speed, distance and pace – in which you can also set your target zones. In my opinion, you can always rely on Polar heart rate monitors, and the Polar RS300X Heart Rate Monitor is no exception to that.
